I am building a desk for my daughter. My workshop smells of birch plywood and poplar. There are glued-up pieces everywhere. Watch your step.
...finished it. Check it out.
Hobbies & Pastimes .
Something suddenly brings you back to the present moment. You realize that you had gone somewhere else in your head, and had been there for some time. Good hobbies do that.
Just extracted 44 pounds of honey from my bee hive. This season was bountiful. Cannot recall when clover lasted quite so long. Last year I lost my entire colony to Foulbrood, a disease that requires replacing all frames, scorching the hive bodies and getting new bees. This much honey from a new colony, the first season, was an unexpected surprise.
Recently I restored three pieces of metal lawn furniture, one of those love to sit-on gliders, and two boing-y rocking chairs. Discovered some polyurethane paint they use on outdoor metal storage tanks and gave that a try.
Kayaking five miles @ a nearby lake once or twice a week for exercise.
Discovered yoga this spring and absolutely love it. Found a great class, great teacher.
What else? There's the Phillies, some guitar playing, recently forged and welded some pieces for a sculpture that is in progress.
Looking out the window. Just saw a red-tail fox jumping and spinning around what is likely supper.
Exploring nature with my family -- finding owl feathers on a walk, or frogs in the murk, or a bald eagle perched above the water, thinking catfish.
