THE CORE:
The Communication Department curriculum consists first of
Core Courses which must be taken by
all communication majors and focus on a wide array of topics
pertinent to all department majors.
THE "TRACKS":
Usually during your first two years, you will be asked to
specialize your studies by concentrating on one of five
"tracks." The five tracks are:
Film Studies
Mass Communication
Human Communication
Public Relations
Mass Media Writing
You can concentrate on more than one track, depending
on the type of courses you take. All communication majors
must also take up to three electives (two for those who
choose the PR track), and at least two of those electives
must be from tracks other than your own.
THE CAPSTONE & INTERNSHIPS:
All Comm majors are also required to take a Capstone
Course in Communication Ethics.
There are also internships
and co-ops available to help you gain experience in
the real world.
THE MINOR:
In order to minor in Communication, you must complete six
courses. The department offers five proposed minors: Film
Studies, Human Communication,
Mass Communication, Mass
Media Writing, and Public Relations.
