& John Sayles.

Bro. Gerry is no stranger to the
La Salle campus. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree
in English and then went on to earn a Master's in Theology a year
later. In 1965 he received a Master's in English from the University
of Notre Dame and then earned his Doctorate in Communication from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976. Between 1972 and
1973, Bro. Gerry was a Professor at Lewis University in Romeoville,
Illinois before returning to his alma mater in 1973 as Professor
and Assistant Chair of the English Department.
When the Communication Department
broke from the English Department in 1985, Bro. Gerry became the
first Chair. In 2004, he stepped down from Chair to become the
department's Director of External and International Relations.
Bro. Gerry's love of film is shown through his publications:
Charlie Chaplin's 'City Lights' (1983), James Stewart: A Bio-Bibliography
(1992), Gregory Peck: A Bio-Bibliography (1995), and John Sayles
(2000).
In addition to his love of films, Bro. Gerry also enjoys biking,
music, and sports, particularly the "Fightin' Irish" of Notre
Dame. While not in the classroom teaching about film, Bro. Gerry
moderates the Sigma Phi Lambda fraternity and takes an active
interest in Communication alumni. He also enjoys helping recent
graduates in their search for jobs.
