Marianne Dainton, Ph.D.

Assistant Chair, Professor

Marianne's research focuses on communication in romantic relationships, with a special focus on how relationships are maintained.

Marianne received her B.A. in Communication Arts at Villanova University in 1985, with minors in French and Economics. After graduation, she worked as a reporter, and also worked in Public Relations and Human Resources. She received her master's and doctorate from Ohio State, with an emphasis on interpersonal communication. Prior to coming to La Salle in 1996, Marianne spent two years as an Assistant Professor at State University of New York (SUNY-Geneseo), NY.

Marianne teaches interpersonal communication, communication theory, and small group communication. Her articles have appeared in Communication Monographs, The Journal of Social & Personal Relationships, Family Relations, and Communication Reports. She has published two books in the last three years.  The first is an academic book called "Maintaining Relationships through Communication: Relational, Contextual, and Cultural Variations."  The second is a textbook she co-authored with Elaine Zelley called "Applying Communication Theory for Professional Life."

She is a recipient of La Salle's Holroyd Award, as well as the Emery Award for Outstanding Scholarship. Marianne currently serves as Assistant Chair for the Communication Department.
