Core Curriculum

The University curriculum requires that students complete courses in five areas in order to receive their degree. Within these five areas you will need to complete a minimum of 38 courses and 120 credits. There are department and school restrictions associated with some of these requirements. Please consult your academic department for appropriate course selection.
I.
Powers: (three to five courses)

The Power of Numbers:  
  MTH150 - Mathematics: Myths & Realities
or
  Approved course in mathematics or statistics required by student's major.  
D.
The Power of Speech:*  
    COM150 - Public Speaking
(Education majors are exempt from this requirement.)
 
E.
The Power of Information Technology
  CSC151 - Introduction to Computing: Using Packages
or
    CSC152 - Introduction to Computing: Mathematics/Science Applications
   
II.
Frameworks of Scientific Understanding: (three courses)
 
A.
Natural Sciences: one course in any of the following disciplines
    Biology 157, 158
    Chemistry 150, 152
    Geology 150, 151, 152, 153, 154
    Physics 150
 
B.
Social Sciences: one course from each of the two areas
    1. Economics (ECN150) or Political Science (POL151)
    2. Psychology (PSY155) or Sociology (SOC150)
       Education majors will take EDC103 and EDC104 to meet the Social    Sciences Requirement
   
III.
Patterns of Meaning: (11 Courses)
    Five Areas - Two-course pathway in each area.

C.
Literature

E.
Patterns of Expression - two course pathway to be chosen from one of two tracks. (Students electing a concentration option in this area must select a course on the same track as their two-course pathway)
   

Fine Arts

    ART151 or 152 and a 200 level course in Art History

    MUS 150 and a 200 level course in Music History
    or
    Foreign Language
        Two Courses in sequence
 
F.
Concentration Option - 3rd course in one of the five areas.
