Pacific-Rim
Seminar 2006
Overview
The
Pacific Rim Seminar will include visits to Hong Kong and Singapore.
The eleven day travel component will be from January 2nd through
January 12th 2006.
For
the course, the students are required to complete a term paper
and a team-based research project for three (3) credits. During
the course, the participants will be exposed to issues for
doing business in Asia. The students will be exploring the
Pacific Rim dimensions of business and will be developing
a multi-national perspective on leadership. The focus will
be on International Finance and International Marketing. The
course will fulfill a requirement in Finance, Marketing, or
the International Business Specialization. It could also be
used as an elective in all other specializations. This course
is also offered for post graduate credit.
Through
corporate visits, the students will learn how leadership is
implemented in a fundamentally different cultural context.
Students are required to prepare for the company visits by
researching information about the company in order to conduct
a SWOT analysis. The typical visit will focus on the company
mission, products, marketing and/or finance issues that the
company is facing. As you might expect, the students are very
eager to find out more about the companies they have researched
and like the opportunity to ask questions.
