Purpose:
Reach for the Stars provides abstinence education and related services to families with children aged 12 to 18 in the Upper North and Northwest areas of Philadelphia. The curriculum utilized is “Sex Can Wait” published by ETR Associates. Formal curricular classes are conducted at four elementary schools, one Sunday church youth group, and two summer camp locations. Reunions are held at six month intervals for program participants. Communication Workshops are conducted in various community settings for parents and caregivers of adolescents.

Staff:
The program is conducted by public health nurses and community health outreach workers. Graduate and undergraduate nursing students also assist with selected class sessions related to STI’s and goal setting.
