To begin:

  • Go to your Start Menu
  • Choose Programs, Network Associates, and then VirusScan Console

Once you're in the VirusScan Console, you will see in the Description column AutoUpdate. This feature updates the virus definitions.

  • To update your virus definition files manually, click once on AutoUpdate
  • Select the Task menu, then select Start
  • A Mcafee AutoUpdate box will pop up and automatically update your virus definitions. When it is complete click the Close button or it will automatically close in 25 seconds.

  • To schedule an automatic update, right click on AutoUpdate
  • Select Properties with the left mouse button
  • Click the Schedule button in the top right hand corner
  • On the Task tab put a check in the Enable box
  • Select the Select tab at the top of the screen
