C&C does not support the FrontPage Server Extensions. You
should avoid features that rely on them. They may work while
you develop your pages, but they will not work when you move
your FrontPage Web to a UW Web server.
FrontPage Components are special features you can add to your
FrontPage webs to create more dynamic Web sites. Most FrontPage
Components require the FrontPage Server Extensions and thus do
not work on the UW Web Servers. FrontPage components that require
the FrontPage Server Extensions include:
- Confirmation Field
- Discussion Form Handler
- FrontPage created server-side Image Maps
- Hit Counter
- Registration Form Handler
- Save Results Form Handler
- Scheduled Image
- Scheduled Include Page Component
- Search Form
- Database Results Wizard
- Send To Database Form Handler
- Nested Subwebs
- Lightweight Source Control (Document Check-in/Check-out without
VSS)
- Categories Component
- Additional Information on FrontPage 2000 Database Functionality
- Additional Information on FrontPage 2000 Security Functionality
FrontPage components that do not require the FrontPage Server
Extensions and therefore are safe to use include:
- HTML Markup
- Include Page Component
- Substitution Component
Note: The capabilities provided by some FrontPage components,
like handling form submissions, can be achieved on the through
other means such as CGI programs.
