Studying Abroad through Arcadia or another University
The cost factor:
The costs will be determined by the program of study from the Host Institution. Students will be charged directly by the Host Institution. La Salle University can process financial aid for students studying abroad through a non-La Salle program approved by an American Accredited Institution. The following information needs to be provided by the student to the Office of Student Financial Services:
- Written lists of the costs
- Proof of acceptance into the program as well as the dates it will cover, or the La Salle University Academic Approval Form, completed, approved and signed by the Academic Dean
Financial Aid:
If the consortium agreement is approved by our office, the student will be considered a La Salle University student for financial aid purposes and will need to apply for financial aid through La Salle.
Priority Financial Aid Deadline is April 15. Applications will continue to be processed after the deadline, but need-based grant awards will vary depending on availability of funds at the time the application is completed and received by La Salle University.
Financial aid eligibility is determined by the FAFSA and the Institutional Data Form.
Students whose sole source of aid would be alternative loans do not need to file a FAFSA, but should be sure to apply early for these loans.
Students eligible for any of the following funds during the academic semester(s) they study abroad will be able to use them to pay for their “study abroad tuition:”
Federal Pell Grant
Federal ACG Grant (Academic Competitiveness Grant)
National SMART Grant (Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant)
PHEAA Grant (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency)
Federal Stafford Loan
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal PLUS Loan (Parent Plus)
Any other Federal and State grants
Alternative/Private Loans (information can be obtained in the Student Financial Services Office)
Students who have been awarded outside private scholarships must get written permission in order to use the scholarship to pay for study abroad tuition. Examples of this type include: Police Athletic League Scholarships (PAL) or Knights of Columbus Scholarships.
Students studying abroad through a non-La Salle program will not be permitted to use any of their La Salle grants or scholarships, including athletic money, tuition exchange and tuition remission to pay for their study abroad tuition.
Once all financial aid is processed, a refund check will be sent to the student to pay for their non-La Salle study abroad tuition at their Host Institution. Refund checks are mailed to the student’s home address after the La Salle add/drop period of the semester they are studying abroad.
Since students are billed directly by the Host Institution, La Salle University is not responsible for any money owed to that school. It is the student’s responsibility to make any initial deposits or payments to the Host Institution.
Students interested in study abroad MUST make an appointment in Student Financial Services as soon as possible to discuss their individual financial aid packages.
