How To Apply
How to Apply for Summer 2009 Financial Aid

Summer is a separate term from the fall and spring terms. It is the last term of the financial aid year. Generally, students are only eligible for Stafford loans for the summer. The amount of these loans is unrelated to the amount that is borrowed during the previous fall and spring terms. In contrast, the amount of summer Pell Grant does depend on the amount of Pell Grant that was awarded during the previous fall and spring terms.

*Important note:  In order to be eligible for Federal Stafford loans, undergraduate students must be enrolled for a combined minimum of 6 credits between both the summer 1 and summer 2 sessions.

Graduate students must be enrolled for at least 3 credits of graduate coursework in order to be eligible for Federal Stafford loans during the summer sessions.

Step 1:
Complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 15, 2009.
Our Title IV code is 003287
You may apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov

IMPORTANT: If you are already receiving federal aid for either the fall 2008 or spring 2009 terms, then you have already completed the 2008-2009 FAFSA and can skip this step.

Step 2:
Complete the Summer 2009 Web Institutional Data Form (SIDF)  by April 15th, 2009. You will be notified via email when the form is available online.  No Aid will be awarded until this form is received by our office.

Step 3:
If you're borrowing a Stafford loan and did not previously complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN), please call the Office of Student Financial Services at 215-951-1070 for more information.

Step 4:

Every year, the federal government randomly selects a group of students for verification. If you're selected, you will be required to submit additional documentation in order to complete your application.  This paperwork can be obtained from the forms section of the Student Financial Services website.

Besides verification, there may be other special circumstances pertaining to your application, for which we will need to collect various documentation. You will receive a letter that details the additional documentation that is needed. The documentation must be submitted within 30 days of receipt of our request letter. (See the section below on deadlines for more information).  No aid will be awarded until the requested documentation is received by our office.

You may use the La Salle portal to see what documentation is needed and if it has been received by the Office of Student Financial Services. To do this, log onto mylasalle, and then click on Br. LUWIS.

Step 5:
Undergraduate students may also apply for a summer PHEAA State Grant. These applications do not come through our office, but are sent directly to PHEAA. They are available every year after May 1st. It's important to remember that a student can only have eight semesters of State Grant and a summer State Grant would be counted as one of those semesters.
Generally, a student needs to take a minimum of 6 credits to be eligible for a Summer PHEAA State Grant. For more information, please contact PHEAA at 1-800-692-7392.

Why Are These Deadline Dates So Important to You?
The purpose of our deadlines is to assure that your financial aid is credited to your account by the start of the summer term. Filing late or submitting requested documentation after the deadline may cause a reduction in your financial aid award or a delay in having your aid credited to your account.

If you miss the application or the additional documentation deadline, you must be prepared to use the TuitionPay® plan offered by the Office of Student and Accounts Receivable.  Information concerning TuitionPay® can be obtained by contacting 1-800-635-0120.  If you do not make the necessary payment arrangements, you will incur a late charge that will not be waived.
Also, if you miss the deadlines and your financial aid is not in place, then you must be prepared for a delay in receiving a refund check for living expenses or a transfer of funds to your gold card to buy books.

You can reach the Office of Student Financial Services at 215-951-1070 or e-mail us at finserv@lasalle.edu.
