What if I do a co-op?
If a student is doing a co-op/internship and will be enrolled in
less than 12 credits during that semester, he/she must come to the
Student Financial Services Office to see how their financial aid
may change due to differences in tuition charges and credits. If
a student is enrolled in at least 12 credits during the co-op/internship
semester, their financial aid will not change.
Financial Aid which can be used while doing a co-op/ internship:
Federal Stafford Loan
Federal Pell Grant – Pro-rated for number of credits during
co-op semester
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal PLUS Loan
PHEAA Grant (must enroll for at least 6 credits to receive p/t
PHEAA grant)
If a student has an outside scholarship, they must get written
permission from the organization to use it while doing their co-op/internship.
La Salle University grants and scholarships cannot
be used while doing a coop/internship if the student is enrolled
for less than 12 credits during that semester.
If the student will be enrolling in summer classes immediately
after the coop/internship and was ineligible for La Salle funds
during the coop/internship semester, then the student could be
eligible for a prorated amount of LSU aid during the summer. The
student may be part time during the summer to be eligible for
these awards. If the student elects to use a LSU scholarship during
the summer following the coop/internship, then the summer would
count as a semester towards the 8-semester limit that some LSU
scholarships require. Funding for the summer is subject to availability
of funds.
Please see your financial aid counselor if you have any questions
regarding your financial aid and coops and/or internships.
