La Salle University

How do I get aid for LSU Study Abroad in Ireland, Australia, Mexico, or Italy?
The cost factor:

Students studying at 1) National University of Ireland in Galway, Ireland; 2) Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia; 3) Universidad La Salle Mexico City, Mexico; or 4) American University in Rome, Italy during an academic semester will be charged full-time La Salle University tuition by La Salle University. This charge includes tuition, required fees, and housing.
Students will be considered “off-campus” and will receive an exemption on their General University Fee and Room and Board during the semester they study abroad.

Costs such as airfare, meals, personal incidental expenses and other travel costs are not included. These expenses are the student’s responsibility.

Priority Financial Aid deadline is April 15. Applications will continue to be processed after the deadline, but need-based grant awards will vary depending on availability of funds at the time the application is completed and received by La Salle University.

Financial aid eligibility is determined by the FAFSA and the Institutional Data Form.
Students whose sole source of aid would be alternative loans do not need to file a FAFSA, but should be sure to apply early for these loans.

Students eligible for any of the following funds during the academic semester(s) they study abroad will be able to use them to pay for their “study abroad tuition:”

Federal Pell Grant
Federal AGC Grant (Academic Competitiveness Grant)
National SMART Grant (Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant)
PHEAA Grant (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency)
Federal Stafford Loan
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal PLUS Loan (Parent Plus)
Any other Federal and State grants
Alternative/Private Loans (information can be obtained in the Student Financial Services Office)

Students who have been awarded outside private scholarships must get written permission in order to use the scholarship to pay for study abroad tuition.  Examples of this type include: Police Athletic League Scholarships (PAL) or Knights of Columbus Scholarships.

Students are permitted to use a maximum of $1,000 from any one La Salle University grant or scholarship fund to pay for study abroad tuition in Ireland, Australia and Rome; and a total of $4,000 towards study abroad tuition in Mexico, per semester of study abroad. This includes the Founder’s Scholarship, Mission Grant, Christian Brothers Scholarship, Federal SEOG Grant and any endowed scholarship that is awarded through Student Financial Services. These are the only La Salle funds that may be awarded for study abroad tuition.  \

*Please note:  students using the Founder’s Scholarship should be aware that this would be counted as one of the eight semesters of eligibility.

Athletic money, tuition exchange, and tuition remission cannot be used to pay for study abroad tuition.

Students interested in study abroad MUST make an appointment in Student Financial Services as soon as possible to discuss their individual financial aid packages.
