Bilingual and Bicultural Studies - Model Curriculum
Students admitted into the program are classified into one of the
following groups:
· Advanced Language Students
· Not-advanced Language Students
Advanced Language Students
For advanced language students, the curriculum requirement is as
follows:

BLS 508 (3 credits) Any 3 electives (9 credits)
BLS 511 (3 credits) Total elective(s) credits = 9
BLS 512 (3credits)
BLS 520 (3credits)
BLS 600 (3 credits)
BLS 651 (3 credits)
Any Caribbean Lit. course (3 credits)
Total Core credits = 21
Total credits required for graduation: 30
Not-Advanced Language Students
For not-advanced language students, the curriculum requirement is
as follows:

***Urban Spanish series, Any 1 elective (3 credits)
Total of 15 credits: Total elective(s) credits = 3
BLS 501 (Urban Spanish 1)
BLS 502 (Urban Spanish 2)
BLS 503 (Urban Spanish 3)
BLS 504 (Urban Spanish 4)
BLS 505 (Urban Spanish 5)
BLS 508 (3 credits)
BLS 520 (3 credits)
BLS 600 (3 credits)
BLS 651 (3 credits)
Total Core credits= 27
Total credits required for graduation: 30
*** Note: From time-to-time, not advanced language students are
allowed to waive Urban Spanish 1 and/or 2 (BLS 501 and BLS 502).When
an Urban Spanish course is waived, an elective course is added.
The student is still required to complete a total of 30 credits
to graduate.
