American Psychological Association
This site belongs to the largest psychological organization in the United States. Their conference is also huge and is held at the end of the summer. The submission deadline is in early December. It is attended by many of the best known living psychologists (and probably in spirit by others!). On this site you will find everything from pop articles on psychological topics through information about practice issues, to articles about basic research. The site contains information about student resources as well. Join APA!
American Psychological Society
This organization was founded partly in response to the increasingly clinical focus of the American Psychological Association. APS's membership includes the nation's foremost psychological scientists and academics. Members cover the entire spectrum of basic and applied psychological science. Founded in 1988, APS's mission is to promote, protect, and advance the interests of scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, and the improvement of human welfare. This site also contains links to psychological topics. Their conference is held in early summer. The deadline for submissions is typically in January.
Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy
This site contains information about both behavioral and cognitive research and practice. This organization holds conferences with wonderful CE workshops. True to the CBT tradition, all workshops suggested readings (homework) to be done ahead of time and presenters provide useful handouts during their workshops. Conferences are usually held in November. Join AABT!
Association for Women in Psychology
This is a national psychological association. AWP is a not-for-profit scientific and educational organization committed to encouraging feminist psychological research, theory, and activism. AWP is an organization with a history of affirming and celebrating differences, deepening challenges, and experiencing growth as feminists. AWP's conference is typically held each spring in March. The submission deadline is in early October. It is a very student-friendly conference. Topics are related to women's issues and feminist activism. Eastern Psychological Association
This is the largest of the regional psychological associations. It's conference is typically held each spring in March or April. The submission deadline is in late October. It is a very student-friendly conference; not as potentially overwhelming as APA. Topics range from basic research to symposia about ethical issues in therapy.
Maryland Psychological Association
The Maryland Psychological Association (MPA) website contains information that may be of interest to MPA members, to psychologists, to non-members, to those training or interested in training to become a psychologist, to other mental health professionals, and to those seeking psychological services.
National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology
The purpose of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology is to advance the development of the highest quality of graduate training in professional psychology. The Council gathers and disseminates information regarding schools and programs of professional psychology. It develops standards for the education and training of professional psychologists. It also monitors and influences public policy with regard to the education and training of professional psychologists.
Pennsylvania Psychological Association
The Pennsylvania Psychological Association is a 66-year-old non-profit professional association for licensed psychologists and others affiliated with the delivery of psychological services. It leads to information about membership, ethical and legal questions, licensing, depression, and other psychology sites.
Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists
The purpose of this organization is to represent psychology as a profession and as a science, and to utilize psychological techniques and principles to improve community welfare and to advance scientific knowledge. It seeks to protect the public by encouraging the highest standards of ethics and professional practice. PSCP offers members and the public a variety of services. The public can get the names of area psychologists who specialize in treating people with their type of problem, find a psychologist to see them at a reduced rate, get a speaker to discuss a particular type of problem and it's treatment, or a consultant to make recommendations to their organization. PSCP members can attend high quality, reasonably priced CE events, advertise their practice on PSCP's web site, or network with other PSCP members at social functions.
Society for the Psychology of Women
The Society for the Psychology of Women (Division 35) was established in 1973 as Division 35 of the American Psychological Association, following the picketing of an APA council meeting by members of the Association for Women in Psychology. The Society is devoted to providing an organizational base for all feminists, women and men of all national origins who are interested in teaching, research, or practice in the psychology of women. Our purpose is to promote feminist scholarship and practice, and to advocate action toward public policies that advance equality and social justice. Join Division 35!
