Cynthia L. Turk, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor

Education:
B.A., Psychology, University of Kansas
M.S., Clinical Psychology, Oklahoma State University
Ph.D., Clinical Psychology, Oklahoma State University
Postdoctoral Fellowship, Adult Anxiety Clinic of Temple University

Licensure: Licensed Psychologist in Pennsylvania.

Research Interests:
My research interests include the nature and treatment of social anxiety disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I am particularly interested in the role of various emotion variables (e.g., emotional avoidance, emotional expressivity) in the psychopathology of these disorders. With regard to generalized anxiety disorder, I am particularly interested in examining Mennin, Turk, & Heimberg’s (2004) model. With regard to social anxiety disorder, I am interested in examining Trower and Gilbert’s (1989) model, Clark and Well’s (1995) model, and Rapee and Heimberg’s (1997) model. Secondarily, I also have interest in alcohol use among socially anxious individuals, internet usage among socially anxious individuals, and the similarities and differences between worry and rumination.

Opportunities for Student Research Involvement:
Opportunities exist for both undergraduate and graduate student involvement in research with both patient and student populations. Research assistants may be involved in all phases of the research process, from study conceptualization and design through publication. A minimum two semester commitment of 8-10 hours per week is required.
