La Salle University’s new, free-standing Pennsylvania Special Education Certification Program offers you a one-year completion track to expand your professional options. When completed, only three additional courses are needed to secure a Masters in Education with Special Education Certification.

Beginning in January, La Salle University will offer a new certification program that prepares educators to work with children with special needs and includes a multi-disciplinary approach to serving these children and their families.

The program, which is 21 credits, can be completed in one calendar year. The curriculum combines theory with  practicum–based experiential learning and an on-line component that brings new capabilities into the candidate’s classroom.

WHAT

WHY
In response to the growing need for classroom educators to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse student populations the PA Special Education Certification and Masters in Education with Special Education programs were created. These two programs build on the deep experience base the La Salle University Education Department offers in the field of special education and augments this strength with the inclusion of expertise drawn from related fields in the university family. Collaborating with these and other interested groups beyond the University community, La Salle hopes to provide an incubator for the development of advanced skills and accelerated sharing of emerging best practices in school and home in for support of all children in optimizing their human potential.

WHERE
Program elements will be offered at La Salle campuses and a practicum center at Hatboro-Horsham School District’s Simmons Elementary School.
