The Hispanic Institute at La Salle University was founded in 2005 by Dr. Luis A. Gómez. Director. The purpose of the Institute is to offer professional academic programs that provide bilingual and bicultural education to all professionals serving the Hispanic communities throughout the region and the nation.

Currently the Institute offers four programs:

  • The Masters in Bilingual/Bicultural Studies has been designed for teaching, business, medical/healthcare, law enforcement, social and government professionals, engaged in providing services to the Hispanic Community.

  • Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (M.A. in TESOL)

  • The Certificate in Translation English/Spanish-Spanish/English was created in response to the need to provide the professional training required for translation. In the absence of a national standard, La Salle University seeks to establish the norm for training skillful translators in English/Spanish-Spanish/English.

The program provides basic skill levels in interpretation. The program addresses three distinct language areas: legal, healthcare, and business.

  • The ESL Specialist Program was designed for teachers seeking ESL certification in Pennsylvania (PA), and other states that recognize PA Certificates. The program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and, accordingly, La Salle University is an approved provider in Pennsylvania.
