History/History for Educators - Frequently Asked Questions

Can students who did not major in History gain admission to the program?
Students whose undergraduate major was in a discipline other than History will be considered for admission as long as the major was in a related discipline.

Can students be admitted into the program as a non-degree student?
Students who choose to take graduate courses without the intention of earning the M.A. degree must enroll in the Certificate Option, which features 4 courses with a specialization in either American, European, or World history.

What is the average GRE score required for admission to the graduate program?
Ideally, candidates should present a score of around 1000 (combined); but the GRE score represents only one component of the overall applicant profile.

Is financial aid available?
The program offers financial aid in the form of Stafford Loans and a limited number of research assistantships.

Does the program offer any tuition discounts for practicing teachers?
Those teaching in a Catholic School within the boundaries of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Allentown, Camden, Trenton and Wilmington are eligible for a 30 percent discount.
