Professional Communication

The M.A. Program in Professional Communication is for persons who wish to become better skilled with communication issues and practices within business and professional organizations. Both communication professionals and students seeking enhanced career and developmental opportunities are welcomed into the program.

The program includes core courses in writing, speaking, theory, research, and ethics. Elective areas of study include such subjects as Public Relations, Conflict Management, Organizational Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Communication Management in Media and Public Relations.

A strength of the program is its practical focus. While emphasizing theory and methods in core courses, students are encouraged to apply the communication principles they learn to professional situations. Both the full-time and professional faculty bring academic and pragmatic experiences to bear in courses that give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skill in the classroom and workplace.

This 36 credit program can be tailored to the individual student's goals through the choices that can be made in the General Courses as well as through the experiences that can be pursued in the Practicum. Most students choose to earn their degree on a part-time basis, which enables them to complete the program in two to three years.
