Professional Communication - Resources

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
The Graduate Program in Professional Communication accepts the GRE Test, a standardized examination that is administered electronically the first 2 weeks of each month. Applications for the GRE must be mailed to the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey 2 months before the test date. The telephone number to receive registration information for the GRE is 1-800-473-2255.

The GRE's consist of three parts: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing.  Prospective students can prepare themselves for the examination by using any of the test preparation books put out by companies such as Barron's or ARCO. These are available in most bookstores and in many libraries.  For more information, the GRE Website is:  www.ets.org/gre/

Miller Analogy Test
The Graduate Program in Professional Communication also accepts the MAT test. It is a standardized examination consisting of 100 analogies. The test takes approximately 50 minutes to complete and is usually offered twice a week through La Salle's Counseling Center Office, and may also be taken at our Bucks County Center.  To get precise information on the times and days the test is offered at La Salle University, call the Counseling Center at (215) 951-1355. Because this is a standardized test, it may also be offered at other colleges near where you live.  You will receive a copy of your test results approximately 2 weeks after taking it. Please request that a copy be sent to:

Graduate Program in Professional Communication
La Salle University -- Box 158
1900 West Olney Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19141-1199

For more information or to take a practice test visit www.milleranalogies.com.

Study guides are also available to help prepare for the MAT. Local bookstores, libraries, or the La Salle bookstore may have one of these guides. (Don't confuse the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) with the GMAT-- these are different tests.)
