Professional Counseling Major
The Counseling major provides a generalist training for students preparing to be licensed professional counselors. The purpose of this major is to teach students about the complexity of human experience and how to assess, understand and treat human problems in the context of a therapeutic setting. This major grounds students in counseling and psychological theory as well as training in assessment and treatment. Students can choose from a variety of theoretical- and skills-based courses.

PSY602 Advanced Counseling Laboratory
PSY619 Multicultural Counseling & Therapy
Any two of the following five:
PSY600 Processes of Change
PSY610 Cognitive/Behavioral Approaches
PSY611 Insight Approaches
PSY612 Group Processes
PSY644 Career Counseling
All of the following:
PSY660 Practicum* (2 credits)
PSY661 Professional/Ethical Issues in Counseling* (1credit)
PSY680/81/82** Internship (2 credits per course)
PSY690/91/92** Professional Seminar (1 credit per course)
*PSY660 is taken in conjunction with PSY661
** The Professional Seminar is taken in conjunction with the Internship for a total of 9 credits.
Secondary Major:
Students in this major may choose to have a secendary major in Addictions Counseling.
