Professional Counseling Program
Industrial/Organizational Psychology – Counseling & Consulting Major
What is the I/O – Counseling & Consulting major?
Students in the Industrial/Organizational Psychology – Counseling & Consulting major have a specific interest in the business world or the workplace and want to work with a mix of individual and broad organizational issues. This major prepares students to become licensed professional counselors (LPCs) and work within for-profit and non-profit organizations. Two content areas are addressed: a) psychological theory and practice and b) management and organizational psychology (e.g. motivation of employee's leadership styles, organizational development). There is an emphasis on the integration of theory and practice.
Expected Outcomes:
For most students, completion of the program will lead to employment in business organizations, consulting firms, or mental health settings as employee-assistance counselors. There are also excellent opportunities for administrative positions in social service and mental health agencies.
