MS Speech-Language Pathology*

La Salle University's Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program is proud to announce that the 2008 MS in Speech-Language Pathology graduates received a 100% pass rate on the National Examination in Speech-Language Pathology (NESPA) PRAXIS test. This is a national test that all speech-language pathologists must take to become certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The average national pass rate is 75%. This is the second year in a row that we have achieved this accomplishment.

A basic human birthright is our ability to communicate. Speech-Language Pathologists help people who have never developed, or lost this ability due to illness or injury. Speech-language pathologists care for patients of all ages with communication disorders. They assess, treat, and help to prevent speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and related disorders. They work in hospitals rehabilitation centers, schools, private practices and more. The master's degree is the standard credential in the field.

You can earn the master's degree at La Salle University's Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program.

*If you do not have a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or in Speech-Language Hearing Sciences, please go to the PreSLP website. The PreSLP program offers a suite of 10 prerequisite courses needed to apply to a master's program. You can fill out an application through the PreSLP website.

Mission Statement
La Salle University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Science Graduate Program provides a research-oriented, clinically-based curriculum grounded in theoretical, ethical, and clinical knowledge in speech, language, and hearing science. Students learn to think critically and communicate effectively. They are prepared to meet professional credentialing including American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certification as speech-language pathologists. Students gain knowledge and skills to evaluate, treat, and advocate for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders in a pluralistic society. Students learn to analyze and integrate research into clinical practice and value life-long learning.

Here are some features of our program:

  • Full-time or part-time program to meet the needs of the working professional
  • Wide variety of clinical practice opportunities in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, and private practices throughout the greater Philadelphia area
  • Distinguished faculty with extensive clinical, research, and teaching experience
  • The MS in speech-language pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, Rockville, MD 20850-3289, 301-897-5700.

Students who have a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology or speech-language-hearing science can start the master's program. Students whose bachelor's degree is in another field can pursue the master's degree after completing prerequisite courses.

Please Note:
As of September 5, 2008, applications to the Master of Science Degree Program in Speech-Language Pathology will be made though the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service for Clinical Education in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology.
