Envision yourself immersed in a research project studying Cardiomyopathy in Infants with Congenital Hyperinsulinism at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia or, researching the Role of Spinal Cord Infection in CNS Disease of Measles Virus Infected Mice at the Fox Chase Cancer Center. The fact is, many in-depth research projects like these are being conducted every year by La Salle students.

We encourage our students to participate in the different research and internship programs offered at La Salle, especially those who are considering graduate or medical school. And the research doesn’t necessarily have to be in the specific area that you eventually go into. What is important is the critical thought process and techniques that you will develop. Graduate and medical schools are looking for candidates with research experience. The valuable research skills you will learn here can be applied later on to whatever discipline you enter.

Some of the research is conducted on campus while we also have excellent connections at top biological research facilities throughout the region, including:
  • Du Pont Merck Pharmaceutical Company
  • Fox Chase Cancer Center
  • US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense
  • Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital
  • Lankenau Hospital
  • The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
  • The Wistar Institute.
  • Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, National Institutes of Health
There are also excellent government-sponsored Research Experience Undergraduate (REU) programs you can participate in at a variety of colleges, research institutes, hospitals, clinics, pharmaceutical and bio-tech companies. La Salle’s Shadow Program allows students in our Pre-Health Program to follow residents and fellows at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and observe their routines and interaction with patients. Our students have also participated in internships at such notable places as the Camden Aquarium, Franklin Institute, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the Philadelphia Zoo. Look just beyond La Salle’s campus and you’ll see many great educational, social and research opportunities open to you in this thriving metropolitan area.
