Careers and Outcomes
Flexibility of the program:
The biology curriculum provides a broad and substantial preparation in the life sciences. The program is flexible and usually allows students to change the direction of their career preparation through their junior year without any notable effect on their ability to complete the program in four years.
Our many alumni have entered professions in laboratory research, environmental studies and teaching. Many have pursued advanced degrees at numerous graduate, medical, dental, and veterinary medicine schools. Career options available to graduates of the La Salle’s biology program include the following:
Pure and Applied Science:
Scientific research in ecology, microbiology, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, botany, zoology, developmental biology, biotechnology, physiology, and marine biology.
Careers in teaching at the secondary level―some continue with graduate education in preparation for university level teaching careers.
Health and Allied Health:
Medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, cytotechnology, and clinical laboratory (scientist or technician).
Additionally students use science backgrounds in other areas such as pharmaceutical marketing, scientific literature management, governmental regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, DER, or EPA), and numerous other areas.
