Goals of the Program
The M.A. in TESOL program at La Salle University has been designed to provide students with the theoretical foundation and contemporary research in linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics (second-language acquisition), and related fields ito fulfill the following goals::
- Understand the nature of second-language learning, interpret current research as it applies to language teaching, and develop the capacity to apply principles of language-teaching in a variety of contexts.
- Develop an ability to critically examine one’s own teaching as well as current language-teaching materials and practices.
- Think creatively about teaching English as a second language and providing leadership in the field of language teaching.
- Understand and critically assess issues around educational changes and cultural identity, as well as second language acquisition and its use in multilingual societies and communities.
