Two New Degrees, One Bright Future
Stephanie Perez of Lawrence, Mass., is graduating from La Salle’s Four-Year BS/MBA program in accounting on Sunday. While a student at La Salle, Perez also completed two full-time work experiences through the Business Scholars Co-op Program and was a volunteer at the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger. Her hard work has paid off—she’s already accepted a full-time position at KPMG, starting in August. Below, she describes her experience at La Salle in her own words:
“Growing up watching my mother work two jobs as she straddled the poverty line served as great motivation. I knew from a very young age that the only way to leave the environment I was in was through education. I took an accounting course in high school and fell in love. I researched accounting programs thereafter, and I found La Salle. With the recession upon me, I knew accounting was a fairly safe choice but far from secure. By the end of my second year at La Salle, I was interning at one of the Big Four accounting firms. Having La Salle’s Four-Year BS/MBA and Business Scholars Co-op programs on my résumé provided me the security that current economic conditions could not in terms of feeling confident about my future job prospects.
“When I am asked the always-uncomfortable “Do you have any questions?” at the end of any interview, I always ask what the interviewer was most surprised about when he or she joined the firm. If asked that question about La Salle, my answer would be simple: I was most surprised about how quickly it felt like home. La Salle and its faculty work hard to ensure that every individual feels comfortable. As I complete the MBA portion of the Four-Year BS/MBA program, I can sincerely say that La Salle and Philadelphia are no longer just “school”; they are my home.”
