Editor's Note: Patriot Act magazine
Alas and alack, my friends and readers alike. We sit here just barely on the far side of the five-year anniversary of the most terrible and devastating attack on American soil since the Oklahoma City bombing, the shadow of 9/11 still all around us. Much has happened since then, no doubt about that: we’ve been participants in two wars (Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Iraqi conflict), have secured certain oversea alliances while entering murky waters with others, and have vastly changed, for better or for worse, in the eyes of European media and populace. The most enduring of these effects, however, is arguably the USA PATRIOT Act, issued by Congress and President Bush to protect the homeland. My writers this week will be discussing the necessity and legality of this piece of legislation. No matter what your political stance is, no matter where you sit in the political spectrum, read well, be informed, and be sure to vote in November. costellom4@lasalle.edu |
