Sundays subpar without gridiron glory

As I sat around idly on Saturday night, it dawned on me that I had nothing to look forward to the next day. Every Sunday since September, my days were passed, glued to my television set watching mammoths of men pulverize each other.

As all the football junkies like me know, there were no NFL games on Sunday because of the bye week before the Super Bowl. And after next Sunday’s game is finished, there will be no regular contests on Sundays for a good seven months.

It sounds pathetic, but it is very depressing because Sundays without football are like having Thanksgiving dinner without the turkey, or football. The season just goes by way too fast, and I wish it was a few months longer to satisfy my pigskin urges.

Unfortunately, that is not possible because of the nature of the sport and how tough the game is. Sixteen games are enough by the time the injuries add up at the end. That rationale doesn’t leave me a way to pass my Sundays, though.

Before, it was exciting because I know that when I went out on Saturday nights, people would be discussing the next day’s match-ups. I can remember making plans to go over friends’ houses for 12 hour feasts on football, food and beverages. Now the only thing to watch is basketball on Sundays. There really is nothing worthwhile to view on television, except boring reruns of things I have seen a million times. It seems every football fan has to roll up in a cave and hibernate until the season comes back.

How will I spend the rest of my Sundays without the greatest sport on earth? It sounds lame, but I will have to fall back on simple work. Whether it is through school or otherwise, I suggest some serious labor until kickoff 2007. Readings from class suffice nicely. The same goes for working to pay off bills and expenses from school. These tasks and other less than stellar options will now fill my Sabbaths, which are indeed black now. It’s just not the same.

The overall truth to the whole thing is I know I am not alone and I am already counting down the days until next season because the Eagles are out of it. I almost made the mistake of calling my friend to see what he was doing for the games last Sunday. See how exciting football was to mostly everyone I know? Sundays are truly miserable without football. Listen to gridiron fans around the world lament.
