Op-Ed: Snakes on the Brain
If you haven’t heard yet either from scouring the Internet Movie Database or through overhearing friends in the Union, there is a brilliant film coming out this summer. This film stars Oscar-nominated Samuel L. Jackson, and is simply titled Snakes on a Plane. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to the midnight showing early Friday morning for this masterpiece. For those in the dark, the film is about an FBI agent (Jackson) who is transporting a key witness in a mob case. The mob then gets the brilliant idea to put tons of snakes on the plane to kill the witness. Absurdity and carnage ensue. Although the movie won’t be out until August, people are hyping it to be the next Deep Blue Sea. IMDB’s messageboard is riddled with amazing forum chatter about how ridiculous the movie is going to be. National Public Radio did a whole report during the show All Things Considered. Originally supposed to be rated PG-13, the film has been re-edited with more gore, nudity, language (from Mr. Jackson) and snakes to get an R rating. Never have I heard a movie that is sure to stink get so much hype. Regardless, I am going to see it. As Jackson said in the interview for NPR, “It’s kind of going to be great.” tsikitp1@lasalle.edu |
