Borat reveals great American truth: We’re all really dumb
When people from a foreign country come to visit America, they would have to try and adapt to our customs in order to be able to fit in with other Americans. That seemed to be a difficult task for Borat Sagdiyev. Hilarity develops when Borat is sent to “the greatest country in the world” — the United States of America and he tries to gain cultural learning compared to his life in Kazakhstan. The lengthily titled Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is directed by Larry Charles and stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Ken Davitian. The movie begins with television personality Borat in his home country about to visit the United States. He uses a mix of his customs with people, which doesn’t turn out well at all. While in New York City, Borat comes across the invention of the television, puts on Baywatch and immediately falls in love with Pamela Anderson. He finds out where Anderson lives, and he and his companion, Azamat Bagatov, go on the journey to California in search of Anderson. They come across different obstacles in order to get to her, but the obstacles themselves are so comedic that you can’t help but laugh. This film is by far one of the funniest movies of the year. There is just so much packed into this movie that can’t be put on paper because of the “R” rating that the movie was given. The situations that Borat puts himself in are outlandish, risky and raunchy, but there is nothing despicable about the movie. All of these elements provide great appeal. Borat is fun for anyone to watch. It is hilarious how Borat shows the real reactions of Americans to this foreigner. I definitely recommend this movie. It will have you cracking up. dadamof1@lasalle.edu |
