Professor Randoms: Jacqueline Skole
Where did you attend college? Skole graduated from the University of Michigan in 1990. From there, she went right to graduate school at Northwestern University in Chicago. Do you feel that going to graduate school is necessary for someone who is interested in journalism? “Not necessarily. The main reason I went was because I became interested in journalism during my spring semester of my sophomore year, so I got a late start and didn’t have much experience,”she said. Skole said Northwestern gave her practical skills. “I went there for broadcast writing, so I had to learn linear editing and other things that are necessary for a broadcasting career.” Out of all the jobs that you have had, which one was your favorite? “My favorite job was definitely being a News Magazine Producer for CNN,” she said. Working at CNN allowed Skole to travel and meet people. Why did you stop working for CNN if you liked it so much? “I recently had two kids, and my job at CNN required long hours,” Skole said. What classes do you teach at La Salle? Skole teaches Communication 206: Fundamentals of Journalism. How long have you been teaching at La Salle? “This is only my second semester,” Skole said, “but hopefully there will be many more.” What advice can you offer students who are interested in journalism? “Read everything, listen to National Public Radio (NPR), watch the news, be inquisitive and observe your surroundings,” Skole said. deangee2@lasalle.edu |
