Continuing Studies secretary brings young, fresh perspective to busy office
Jadeth Mayfield works as the secretary for the Continuing Studies program. Although she has only been working at La Salle for a year, she has brought a fresh new perspective to the office. For instance, before coming to La Salle she said she was a “bad girl.” Although she jokes about her behavior pre-La Salle, her dedication and determination have made her an excellent employee. She works full-time answering phones, setting up appointments, dealing with students and faculty who need assistance and “general front desk duties.” Mayfield is a native of Philadelphia, growing up in the La Salle area. In her spare time, she said you can find her “sleeping.” Outside of working, she loves to “hang out with my friends.” Although Mayfield faces many challenges during the day, she said that the worst is when people make appointments and then cancel them. “People do that all the time,” Mayfield said. “Someone actually just did it a few minutes ago.” As the secretary of the entire department, Mayfield handles calls and appointments for several people. Her desk is covered in Post-its, papers and appointment books, all filled with notes. Although the office is busy, Mayfield is a good multi-tasker who can work on several different projects at once. She needs to be accessible to all of the department’s employees, as well as all the students and faculty who are working with the program. When Mayfield leaves work after a hectic day, she said she loves to just “act crazy.” After sitting in the office handling panicked student calls, a parade of visitors and endless canceled appointments, no one can blame her. carterb1@lasalle.edu |
