Circle K members serve up success with several wins at statewide convention
Student members and Circle K organizations were nominated from around the state. For some of the awards, the students had to submit a form to be considered, but others were chosen by the Pennsylvania Circle K District Board. President Rochelle Cantiveros has devoted over 100 hours of service to the community in the past year, working at such places as soup kitchens, hospitals, walks and parks. Sophomore Amanda Walker was honored with a trophy called the Unsung Hero Award. “It’s given to those who are dedicated to doing service without necessarily having a position in the club,” Walker said. “Honestly, even if I hadn’t received such an award, I would still continue doing community service, but it is really great to know that the officers of Circle K thought I deserved to get it.” The group traveled to Carlisle, Pa. for a weekend convention, culminating in the announcement of the award recipients. “Friday was an informal gathering. Each club was presented, and then we had a social activity, a carnival,” Cantiveros said. The following day was devoted to workshops and a formal dinner at night, where the awards were given out. The groups were treated to a farewell breakfast the following morning, where the 2005-2006 District Board was retired. Circle K members put in hours of service each week to better the community, and their hard work was finally rewarded, bringing both them and La Salle statewide recognition. “I am extremely proud of all the work and dedication Circle K’s executive board has demonstrated,” Cantiveros said. “I look forward to hearing about their continued successes next year.” collettaj1@lasalle.edu |
