Gamma Sigma Sigma shines in the public eye through local media coverage

The sisters of Gamma Sigma Sigma have been putting La Salle in the news lately. With interviews with representatives from CBS3, Fox29, MTV-U and Q102, the sisters were able to promote the Alex’s Lemonade Stand, which helps fight cancer, as well as La Salle.

This is the first time the chapter of Gamma Sig has received publicity from local news/radio nationwide, as well as from MTV. Due to the success of sponsoring an Alex’s Lemonade Stand in October in the Union, the sisters were recruited by Playtex Gentle Glide Company to help host the kick-off event to their “Every Girl Can Make a Difference” campaign, held at the Philadelphia Art Museum on March 18.

The Gamma Sig girls of La Salle made it on the evening and morning programs in Philadelphia. Playtex also had a b-roll crew at the stands that took footage from the day. This footage will be played through the month of April. Students and faculty will be able to view this footage on MTV-U when walking through the Union building next month.

Two members of Gamma Sig, juniors Meghan Gaffney and Lauren Sanguinetti, were chosen to be Student Ambassadors for the campaign. The press captured a picture of sister Victoria Lee shaking hands with Alex’s mom, Liz Scott, at the Art Museum.

Alex Scott died at a very young age of cancer. Throughout her struggle, she tried to raise money for cancer research by running lemonade stands outside of her house. After she passed, her family and friends decided to honor her memory by carrying out her wishes.

“This was a very large commitment, but it was for a cause that Gamma Sig feels very strongly about, so we were happy to do it,” President Meghan Gaffney said.

Gamma Sig is nationally founded on the ideals of service, friendship and equality.

“I think it was very positive for our girls to see that they are supported and honored for their efforts in community service,” Gaffney said.

Stanton Crenshaw, a public relations group, promoted the “Every Girl Can Make a Difference Campaign.” Gaffney said that the whole sorority learned a lot about how to spread the word and promote events through this agency.

“Gamma Sig will take all this new knowledge and use it to our advantage at other large community service events that we are planning,” Gaffney said.
