Students haunt Union basement
In the true spirit of celebrating the beloved holiday of All Hallows’ Eve, the Masque, the Commuters and Off Campus Students (CAOS) and the Resident Student Association (RSA), constructed a haunted house for the viewing pleasure of their fellow Lasallian peers. Last Friday, I stood in the Union lobby with my roommates along with a multitude of other students. The haunted house was located in the Union basement, and students were permitted to view it between 10:30 p.m and 1:30 a.m. Students were allowed to tour the haunted house in groups of five or six. Upon walking down the staircase and entering the room once known as the Union gameroom, we were greeted with shrieks of anguish as my roommates and I saw someone being tortured in a “mad laboratory.” Past the chambers of torture creeped many ghouls and zombies, until our tour group reached the next exhibit. Through the next set of doors was a long hallway in which a strobe light went off, truly establishing the mood of a horror film. This hallway was lined with hideously freaky zombies, recreating a scene from the well known movie, Dawn of the Dead. Other zombies were seen feasting on a dead corpse before menacing us in the tour group by spitting out blood. After reaching the end of the hallway, we were led through another corridor lined with black trash bags and black sheets to give a dark, labyrinth effect. After reaching the end of the hallway, two identically dressed figures creepily reached out at us and demanded,“Come play with us” reminiscent of the scene for The Shining. We were first told that we were going to the theater, but blocking the way was none other than knife -weilding Freddy Krueger. After finally be able to find our path through the hall, there were two rooms. Each room depicted a scene from a recent horror film. We entered the first room single file, walking along the wall, only to see Samara, from The Ring, pop out of a well in the back of the room and begin to stagger towards us. The girl playing Samara wore a plain white smock with her long black hair dangling over her face, giving a funny, yet accurate, depiction of the film. The next room was a reconstruction of the first scene of the movie Saw, where the man is in a bathroom, with his leg chained to a sink. To end this fun-filled night of terror and hilarity, we were chased out by a masked figure holding a chainsaw, recreating Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My roommate continued shrieking for minutes after we were already on our way back to the dorms. The goal was surely reached. It was a night of fright. sloanek@lasalle.edu |
