Full name and title: Dr. David, Jones Marketing Department Chair
Hometown: Jones is from Newtonville, Mass.
How has your career developed? “First, I waited on tables and worked in restaurant kitchens. I then directed the Community Action and Crisis Management centers in Chapel Hill, N.C., and Roanoke, Va.,” he said. “Then, I worked as a psychologist at the Radford University and Virginia Tech counseling centers. Next, I worked in the premium wine industry and had several different roles. Finally, I became a marketing professor and marketing consultant.” Where did you get your inspiration for teaching? Jones got his inspiration to teach very early on as a consultant and as a counselor. “I didn’t quite realize what I was doing was a form of teaching,” he said. What courses do you teach? Jones currently teaches Personal Selling and undergrad MBA Promotional Strategy. In addition, he directs the marketing internship program. What techniques do you use in class to keep students alert? “I think students prefer to be alert, so it’s getting in touch with that part of students’ attention that wants to be in the class,” he said. If you could only teach students one thing, what would it be? “Let others get to know you as you are because life is short,” Jones said. What is your favorite place on campus? Jones’ favorite place on campus is his office because he likes looking out on the quad. What was your proudest moment? “It’s when successful grads come back to campus to meet with current students,” Jones said. Do you have any special talents? Jones’ special talents are cooking, fly fishing, growing hot peppers and matching foods and wines. stevensj1@lasalle.edu |
