La Salle alum recognized by the Wall Street Journal
As graduation approaches, most seniors frantically search for employment and try to gain success in the “real world.” For one particular student, who graduated in the spring, found that success was not difficult to accomplish. Graduating only a few short months ago, Ibrahim Yagci has already had his name listed in The Wall Street Journal. Yagci was given The Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award. His name was displayed with other winners from other universities in the Sept. 20, 2006 issue of The Wall Street Journal in the Journal Report Section. According to La Salle, Yagci was given this award in May 2006 by the Finance Department “in recognition of high academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and professional accomplishments.” While at La Salle, Yagci studied both finance and marketing. He also spent much of his spare time helping other students. “I tutored students at the Academic Discovery Program in various introductory subjects , including accounting, management information systems and economics,” he said. Yagci even participated in the Dean’s Scholar Program, in which he “assisted business students in their required marketing plan for the introductory business class.” During his time at La Salle, Yagci completed a six-month co-op at McNeil Consumer Healthcare, which is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. “This experience allowed me to apply what I learned at La Salle in a practical setting,” he said. Since graduation, Yagci has been “preparing market analysis reports for international companies that have interests in Turkey.” Yagci said that the companies buy the reports to begin or further their investments in Turkey. Within the past few months, Yagci has certainly been successful and extremely busy. He encourages students to keep up with their workload, but to also get involved. “For many students, maintaining a high GPA becomes a real pressure and a major distraction from involvement in any other activities,” Yagci said. “If I could have one piece of advice for current students, it would be to get involved at La Salle and in the community.” pizzot1@lasalle.edu |
