Freshmen Tiffany Haralson, an Accounting major, and Erika Lunn, an Elementary/Special Education and American Studies double major, sure know how to brighten up a would-be drab dorm room in Saint Neumann Hall. While the East Third floor girls haven’t done much to change around the standard furniture (i.e. beds, desks, closets and dressers), Lunn and Haralson have accented them well.

“It came like this,” Haralson said, “so we decided to just make do with what we have and decorated.”

The room is split right down the middle, with Haralson’s bed, desk and closet along the left wall and Lunn’s furniture on the right wall. Each bed is in the back corners of the room, across from each other. Next to Haralson’s bed is a tall lamp from Bed, Bath and Beyond with five branches of light bulbs, each one a different color. Next to Lunn’s bed is her chest of drawers, adorned with multiple framed pictures on top.

In the center of the room is the television on top of Haralson’s drawer set. On the floor between the beds, and in front of the television, is a soft purple area rug which, along with the girls’ pink and purple beadspreads and pillows, contribute to the brightness of the room.

Behind the television, the girls have their desks and closets. Their refrigerator, with a microwave on top, is on the right wall and a butterfly chair is next to the door on the back wall.

While Haralson and Lunn show their individuality on their respective side walls, they also both choose to remember life before La Salle. Both girls showcase cards and pictures from their hometowns.

The left wall, on Haralson’s side of the room, features two collages of pictures of her friends from home in New Jersey.

“I made them for the dorm room, to remember my friends from high school,” Haralson said.

More pictures are taped to her closet door.

Lunn’s wall, on the right side of the room, features posters of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Above her desk, Lunn has devoted a section of her wall to greeting cards from her hometown of New Castle, Pa. The cards are from all occasions—Halloween, Christmas and ones that just say hello.

“It makes the room homey,” Haralson said.
