Name and title: My name is Paul Lange and I am an instructor of Italian.

What classes do you teach at La Salle? This semester, I am teaching two classes in Italian 102, one class in 302 and a Travel/Study course called Italy Today 270.

What is your hometown? I was born in Pittsburgh.

Where did you attend college? I attended Penn State and Eastern University. I earned my Master’s at La Salle, and am currently working on my doctorate in education at St. Joseph’s University.

What are some hobbies that you enjoy? I enjoy gardening, I have a small garden with tomatoes and basil. I also love reading, traveling, playing guitar, teaching and learning.

Is there any television show that is a must see for you? My must-see is Myth Busters, because those guys are so cool.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why? Although I travel to Italy often, I feel that I can never see enough of it. However, if I were to travel anywhere outside of Italy, it would be to Vietnam.

What was the last movie you saw? A Beautiful Mind, on video.

What is your most memorable work experience? The last class I taught until the next one. But when I worked at General Electric, I worked on patient care equipment in the ICU at a hospital, and something happened to the wireless system. One hundred and thirty-two screens went blank at 10 p.m. and there was no patient information available [on the monitors]. We detoured from Boston and spent 48 hours without leaving or sleeping to get the monitors back up. There had been interference from a new HDTV [High Definition Television] tower, and the frequencies overlapped.

But, good things happen in the classroom. The best experience is when everyone comes in miserable, but by the end of the class everyone’s smiling and laughing- it’s very rewarding.
