Full name and title: Dr. Swee-Lim Chia, Assistant Professor of Marketing

Birthday: Chia’s birthday is Jan. 17. “Since it usually falls during the first week of the spring semester, Dean Paul Brazina likes to remind me it must be great to have our students return to campus to help celebrate my birthday,” he said.

Hometown: Chia was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but he has lived in New Jersey for close to 25 years.

What classes do you teach at La Salle? Chia teaches principles of marketing, retailing and consumer behavior, the core MBA marketing requirement and services marketing.

How long have you been at La Salle? He has been teaching at La Salle since the summer of 2004. Before that he taught at Penn State- Abington.

What college did you attend? Dr. Chia has a business degree and an MBA from Baruch College in New York.  He received his Ph.D. from the City University of New York.

What was your favorite memory from college? In college he enjoyed hanging out at the student center and learning how to dance reggae.

Do you have any special talents? “Whenever I come across a dish I like when I’m in a restaurant, I try to figure out the ingredients and how to cook it so that I can try it at home,” he said.

What is your favorite television show? CBS Sunday Morning is a program that he tries not to miss. What he likes best about it is the features they show.

What do you like doing when you’re not in the classroom? Chia loves teaching, but when he’s not in the classroom, he likes to watch old or classic movies on TCM or RetroPlex.

What’s one thing that your students would be surprised to find out about you? “I have over 5,000 songs on my iPod that ranges from Yo-Yo Ma to Led Zeppelin,” he said. Thanks to his iPod, he now has his CD collection alphabetized and sorted by genre in his basement.
