Junior interns for ComcastTIX

When thinking of purchasing tickets to a local sporting event or concert being held at venues such as the Wachovia Complex, Liacouras Center and the Borgata in Atlantic City, most students automatically think of buying tickets through Ticketmaster. They have probably never even heard of ComcastTIX. Junior Nicole LaRocca proved that this was true on La Salle’s campus.

“I took a survey in my classes of a hundred people and no one knew about ComcastTix, but they all knew Ticketmaster,” she said.

Now working for the Philadelphia Wings, the city’s professional lacrosse team, LaRocca has also taken on a new project.

“My job is to let students know at La Salle that the new ticket provider for places like the Wachovia Complex and Sovereign Bank Arena is ComcastTIX,” LaRocca said.

LaRocca said that ComcastTIX is owned by a company called New Era Tickets, which has previously worked with Comcast-Spectator. This means that Comcast-Spectator benefits from the switch because they do not have to pay a fee for tickets like they did with Ticketmaster.

A marketing and finance major, LaRocca started working with the Wachovia Spectrum as an intern last fall in the venue’s marketing department. The switch from Ticketmaster to ComcastTIX occurred late last semester which is why LaRocca is currently trying to spread the word around campus.

“There are other interns who attend different colleges, so each intern gets his or her own college,” LaRocca said.

The survey was her first step in getting the word out to students, and she also plans on putting up fliers around campus, as well as making portal announcements.

LaRocca said that ComcastTIX offers discounts to college students for different sporting events. Philadelphia Wings tickets only cost $10, and students can attend Flyers games on weeknights for $25.
