Pompizzi works as assistant in Community Development
“My main life quote has a curse in it. Is that OK?” said Julie Pompizzi, Community Development assistant. “Well, I usually say that, ‘Life’s a b----, and then you die, so make the best of it.’” In her position at La Salle, Pompizzi is living out this mantra. “I am technically the administrative assistant for Community Development, so I work with the Judicial Board and I work with new student programs like Day One and Opening Weekend. You know, little stuff,” she said. A jack-of-all-trades, Pompizzi’s job is to assist in any event or program that the Community Development office organizes. From organizing student workers to assisting with programs such as King’s Dream, she’s always on the front lines helping out. She’s an ’05 alum, who graduated with a degree in communication and English. During her time as a student, she was heavily involved in the La Salle community. “During my senior year, I was president of RSA, and I was a Collegian editor. I was on the J-Board and did some community service things,” she said. “I was on the Communications Student Board.” All those activities, no doubt, served to help her familiarize herself with the La Salle community. After graduation, she entered the public relations field, but found that it wasn’t right for her. “I kind of felt like that wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do, so Alan [Wendell, Assistant Dean of Students] approached me and told me that the position was going to become available,” she said. “I knew I wanted to go to grad school eventually. If I gave myself time between graduation and grad school, I might never do it, so I thought I might as well get to it.” Pompizzi accepted the position and is also attending grad school for her degree in Professional Communication. When not in the office, she likes to sew, write and travel. “I minored in Leadership and Global Understanding, so I got to go to a bunch of different places, like Spain, Chile, Hong Kong and Thailand,” she said. She is currently working passing her passion for travel on to high school students. She is working on starting a non-profit organization called “GOAL,” where high school students in the Philadelphia area would step out of their comfort zone and learn about the world around them before actually visiting a foreign land. With grad school, travel and all her hobbies, what does she see for her future? “I always see myself moving to bigger and better things. I’m enjoying my stay in Student Affairs,” she said. “I love working with students and being with students, so it would be really hard to leave that.” anotadoc1@lasalle.edu |
