Grimoire hosts trip to see Sedaris
On Friday, March 30, the Grimoire will be sponsoring a trip to see author and comedian David Sedaris at The State Theatre in New Brunswick. Sedaris is the popular satirist who writes mostly about the experiences of his interesting life. “People call him the master of satire,” said sophomore English and communication major, Jon Juliano, who is running the Sedaris trip. “He basically just lived his life and didn’t know what he wanted to do for a very long time, so he wandered around from one odd job to the next. Eventually he started writing all his experiences down into really great books.” Sedaris’ career was launched when he wrote and performed the SantaLand Diaries on NPR’s Morning Edition. The SantaLand Diaries is the true story of Sedaris’ career as a bitter Macy’s elf during the Christmas season. Since then, he has written numerous collections of both short stories and personal essays, including Holidays on Ice, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. He has also written many plays with his sister, Amy Sedaris, who is perhaps most famous for her role as Jerri Blank on the television series Strangers with Candy. Under the name “The Talent Family,” they have written plays such as Stump the Host, Stitches and The Book of Liz. The details to what Sedaris will be putting on Friday still haven’t been disclosed. “The Web site didn’t give many details; it could be a one-man performance or a book reading. Either way, I know it will be awesome,” Juliano said. Last semester, the Grimoire focused on running different events, such as First Friday bus trips to Philadelphia art galleries, in order to gather publicity for the magazine. “This semester is more focused on the book,” Juliano said, “though we are going to show the movie Adaptation one evening in the upcoming month.” Tickets are available to all students for $5 in the Programming Center. “The tickets are normally about $45 or $55,” Juliano said. “I think La Salle really came through with helping us out.” The $5 will include tickets to the performance and the bus to the show, which will depart from the Hayman Center at 6:15 p.m. in order to make the 8 p.m. performance. williamsk1@lasalle.edu |
