Fraternity, sorority to hold breast cancer run
During the free periods from April 24 to April 28, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Theta Alpha will be sponsoring a Breast Cancer Run on the main quad. Tickets will be sold for a dollar each a week before the event takes place. All money collected will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Additional donations can also be made during free period in the Union building on the week of the race. Last year, Sigma Phi Epsilon members and their friends participated in the run and raised $250. This year, they hope to double that amount due to the help of ATA and the continued participation from the La Salle community. According to Ryan Werner, a member of Sig Ep, both organizations will run a mile around the quad for every dollar raised. “Last year we ran every day for a week and met our requirement,” Werner said. Additionally, Werner stated that Breast Cancer Awareness was chosen as one of Sigma Phi Epsilon’s philanthropies because of its significance to the organization as well as to many of their families. “Personally, I think that running for breast cancer is a physical reminder of how much we value the donations of the La Salle community and how dedicated we are to such a worthy and important cause,” Werner said. “ Its a great bonding experience as we all come together and help push each other to dig downdeep and get those extra miles.” katsifasc1@lasalle.edu |
