La Salle’s student-run radio station, WEXP, was recently honored for its coverage of a Jan. 21 La Salle men’s basketball game versus St. Joe’s.
The award is for Best Coverage of a Local Sporting Event: Major Market, and was presented by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB).
PAB is a professional organization that rarely honors student-run broadcasts, making the win especially rewarding for the students involved.
“Facing competition from professional broadcasters who have been in this business for decades, it is truly remarkable to be chosen as a winner,” said next year’s Director of Sports Programming, sophomore Andrew Neumann.
The award will be accepted by junior Adam Bagni, WEXP’s new General Manager and sophomore Mike Petty, Programming Manager, on May 22 in Hershey, Pa.
Sharing the award with WEXP is Merrill Reese and Mike Quick of FREE-FM, who are being honored for their coverage of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The students involved with WEXP were proud to be recognized alongside various professional radio broadcasters.
“This award is a testament to our hard work and dedication, and is a proud moment for ourselves and the radio station, as we are recognized for doing something we love,” Petty said.
