For the first time, Late Night La Salle hosted “Around the World in St. Basil,” an event designed to bring students together to learn about the cultures of various countries, in St. Basil Court on Friday, March 31. Nine lounges were decorated with items from each of the countries that were represented. Some of the countries included Vietnam, Columbia and Australia.
A number of student organizations helped organize the evening, including the missionary program Project Mapendo. Members of Mapendo managed the Tanzania room, which was complete with bead-making and African drumming.
Members of Los Niños, an organization devoted to community service, hosted the Mexico room. The organization plans to travel to Tijuana in May to undertake a project to build new schools in the city. They served floutas, tortillas stuffed with various types of cheese.
The event’s free food and multicultural activities attracted many students.
Sophomore Caitlin Cherry said, “This event was a cool opportunity to do something different and exciting.”
The evening allowed students to have fun while learning about foreign cultures.
According to sophomore Meggin Forti, “The countries were presented in an educational manner, with fun activities that really exhibited the culture.”
