Spotlight: Welcome back party aims to unite students

Looking for a great way to meet new people or catch up with old friends? Then get ready for the Welcome Back Party presented by St. Basil Court! Join the residents of St. Basil Court and the members of Phi Beta Sigma for this fun-filled event that will be DJed by DeeJay 007. Spotlight sat down with Basil Court Resident Coordinator Myra M. McPhee to get more information about this event.  

Spotlight: So where and when is this event? Myra McPhee: It’s in Backstage, on Sept. 8, from 10-1 a.m.

SP: What can students expect at this event? MM: We’re going to have Philly’s own DeeJay 007 spinning. He specializes in hip-pop (which is not hip-hop). We’ll also have plenty of refreshments. We’re co-sponsoring the event with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., so they’ll have information about their fraternity as well. There will also potentially be giveaways.

SP: Can you give us more information on the DJ? MM: He DJs at colleges all over New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and he also works club events in the city. He has been on tour with 112. He is “the DJ that loves his job.” His website is www.deejay007online.com if anyone wants more information on him.

SP: Can anyone come to this event? MM: This is open to everyone and anyone. Commuters can come, any resident student, even staff members if they can. We want to welcome everybody. We’ll [Basil] just be the ones working the event.

SP: Do you have anything else you’d like to add? MM: It’s gonna be fun, it’s going to be a great way to meet people. This event will be great for people who love to dance, and for people who would rather watch dancing. The dress is casual: it’s a very low key event. You can just come and hang out for a little bit and enjoy the great music.
