Acquiring the “late night munchies” is a nagging problem for many students on the weekends. On Saturday, April 1, students will be offered an alternative to eating late-night pizza and Chinese take-out. Pancakes and waffles will be the featured delights, and will be served from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. by the Alpha Sigma Tau (AST) sorority at the Blue and Gold Dining Commons. Proceeds from this event will be given to charity. This week, Spotlight! met with Katie Metzlaar, who is coordinating this event for AST.
Spotlight: Who will be participating at this event?
Katie Metzelaar: Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Sigma Phi (who is helping us sell tickets and oversee the actual event) and Late Night La Salle.
SP: To whom will the proceeds from the pancake night be going?
KM: All of the money is going directly to Habitat for Humanity of Philadelphia.
SP: How did you get involved with Habitat for Humanity?
KM: It is one of our national philanthropies.
SP: Where did you get the idea to have a pancake night?
KM: I was elected as the philanthropy chair, and I thought of it as a way to bring together the entire campus for a wonderful cause. I did all of the footwork to make everything happen, and then I began assigning responsibility and contacting [Delta Sigma Phi].
SP: Who will be cooking the pancakes?
KM: All of the students in both Greek organizations.
SP: How much is admission? For how long will tickets be available?
KM: Admission is $3. Tickets will be sold from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Treetops Café and Blue & Gold Dining Commons all this week. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
SP: Will you be using a special recipe to make these pancakes?
KM: Nope, just the good old fashioned [batter].
SP: Do you have a set amount of money that you’d like to raise? If so, how much?
KM: Yes. The goal is to raise $1,000.
SP: What other incentives will you be offering students to come out on Saturday?
KM: In addition [to the food], there will be raffle prizes to win, such as a Vera Bradley clutch, a La Salle XL sweatshirt, a tanning package and much more. There will musical entertainment by a local performer, Mike Brill. This is the first-ever all-you-can-eat pancake and waffle dinner held at La Salle at night.
